back label: classified s a first growth in 1973, chateau mouton rothschild is now regarded as one of the world's wines. this achievement was due to one man: baron philippe de rothschild who, in 1922, took the destiny of mouton into his own hands nd made it a place of art and beauty. his daughte philippine de rothshild has continued his work since his death in 1988. each vintage since 1945 has been illustrated with an original artwork by a famous painter, creating a collection which includes the greatest names in modern at. the illustration for the 1990 vintage is one of the lst works of the english painter francis bacon (1909-1992), now acknowledged to be one of the most important artists of the 20th century. a painter whose work is marked by derision and solitude, here he gives the celebration of wine that dreamlike and tormented dimension which makes his vision of the worl so unique.
