"chaque annee depuis 1945, l'etiquete de mouton rothschild est illustree par la creation originale d'un peintre contemporain.
j'ai cependant decide de deroger a cet usage pour le millesime 2003, cent-cinquantieme anniversaire de l'entree de mouton dans le patrimoine familial. c'est en effet le 11 mai 1853 que mon ancetre direct, le baron nathaniel de rothschild (1812-1870), represente ici par un cliche d'epoque, fit l'acquistion de ce cru legendaire. le fond de l'etiquette reproduit en partie l'acte d'achat du domaine, debut d'une longue histoire d'amour entre les rothschild et les grands vins de bordeaux.
ainsi, exceptionnellement, l'avenir se conjugue au souvenir, l'art laisse la place au document et la peinture a la photographie."
